Well, we knew it was coming and it’s finally here!

We finally have big news from the world of Ghostbusters: Afterlife including story, teaser poster (above and beautiful) and images.

Oh, and the trailer below… but before you get to that, check out the new details below.

The movie stars Carrie Coon as mom Callie,  along with young star Mckenna Grace as her science-obsessed daughter Phoebe, and Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard as  son Trevor.

The new plot synopsis says “They have left everything they know and moved to a small town in Oklahoma after inheriting property from the father she didn’t know.”

I think at the stage, given McKenna Grace’s appearance in the movie (here), it’s safe to say they are Spenglers, the family of the late Harold Ramis’ Egon in the original movies.

New director and cowriter Jason Reitman, son of original director Ivan Reitman, says the new movie is “a new adventure that connects back to the Manhattan Crossrip of 1984,” which is the name given to the events of the original movie which almost saw the world end at the hans of ancient Sumerian God Gozer.

“As the family arrives at an old farm, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters,” Reitman says.

The farm is likely the one seen in the original teaser trailer for the movie which we’ve linked to below, which seems to be the final (well, not so final) resting place of the Ecto-1.

“Trevor and Phoebe are about to find out who their grandfather was and whether they’re ready to pick up the proton pack themselves.”

Elsewhere in the house, which is packed with a mountain of books and lots of bizarre technology, Phoebe will find a device that reads psychokinetic energy.

“The joy of cowriting a film like this is imagining the sound of Ecto-1’s engine revving back to life or the moment a PKE meter lights up for the first time and begins leading you toward your destiny,” Reitman adds.

While her brother tinkers with the car, Phoebe finds herself transfixed by the mystery of their new town—not just by the peculiar subjects in their dilapidated home, but strange rumblings from a nearby mine.

The kids also have a summer school teacher called Mr Grooberson who is played by Paul Rudd – one of my all-time fan casts for a Ghostbusters movie and it seems that he recalls the original world-ending events and has become pretty obsessed with it and when he gets his hands on a Ghostbusters trap he pretty much geeks out (well, who wouldn’t?).

Honestly, I couldn’t be more in for this!

Oh, and here’s the new Ghostbusters logo… love it

Check out the first look images of Paul Rudd as Mr. Grooberson (with a classic Ghostbusters trap), Finn Wolfhard in what seems to be the barn where the Ecto-1 was stored from the teaser (here)

Here’s the trailer:

And the international trailer, which is mostly the same but has a cool additional scene at the end:

Here’s a batch of image from the movie too…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
