Whenever I’m asked to choose a film to watch with others what always seems to enter my mind is Studio Ghibli. That’s not to say my favourite film is a Ghibli film, but that the films have touched me so deeply that I think so fondly of them.

The anime style of them is so different to other Japanese anime’s. Like Disney, these films not only work well for children, but adults alike. They are beautifully drawn and beautifully made; their stories are so rich and yet so different that the versatility of the Studio is shown every time.

Throughout the years Ghibli has released some extremely famous films, such as Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle, they have also released some crazies, such as Pom Poko, you’ll know what I mean if you see it, and some incredible epics, such as Princess Mononoke, Naussica of the Valley of the Winds, and Laputa; Castle in the Sky.

So upon hearing the news that Studio Ghibli will release their new TV show to international audiences you can understand my excitement. The show known as Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter will be released on Amazon Prime as an Amazon exclusive.

The show is based on Astrid Lindgren’s book of the same name. It follows Ronja, who befriends a rival’s son and begins to explore the magical world around her, while also learning about each other’s ideologies.

Goro Miazaki, son of Hayao Miazaki the founder of Ghibli, directs the series. Goro has previously directed two other films from the studio, Tales from Earthsea, and From Up on Poppy Hill.

What always seems to be an incredible feature are the famous voice actors that crop up in their dubbed films. It seems that this is no different. The show is being narrated by Gillian Anderson and will feature the voices of Rufus Hound, Morwenna Banks and Teresa Gallagher.

It’s obvious that this show has been targeted for children in mind but knowing Ghibli it will put a smile on everyone’s faces.

The show will be made available on Amazon Prime Video on the 27th January 2017.
