WATCH: Trailer arrives for Stephen King movie Gerald’s Game

September 6th, 2017 by Marc Comments

Holy crap… 2017 really is the year of Stephen King on screen, isn’t it?

In the cinemas we’ve had the disappointing The Dark Tower and the pretty damned good IT. On the small screen we have the really rather good Mr Mercedes and the upcoming Castle Rock.

And now we have another movie from King’s back catalogue to look forward to, this time on Netflix… Gerald’s Game.

Em, what?!

So, the story of Gerald’s Game is so deliciously Stephen King – a husband (Bruce Greenwood) and wife (Carla Gugino) head to an isolated cabin in the woods (yup, he went there) as they get ready for a solar eclipse.

While they wait, they decide to indulge in some, well, kinky stuff. The husband handcuffs his wife to the bed and while they’re, em, messing around, he dies of a fatal heart attack, leaving the wife handcuffed to he bed, stranded miles from anywhere and unable to move.

The book then sees the wife trying to stay alive and work out a way to escape, all the while wrestling with the voices in her head and a terrifying presence that may or may not be real.

The book is brilliant. But I never for a second thought it could be filmed. Yet here we are.

Oculus, Ouija: Origin of Evil and Hush director Mike Flanagan is the man who believed he could bring this ‘passion project’ to life and, for better or worse, here we are.

I’ll not lie, the trailer looks pretty good, although it obviously takes some liberties with the source material, but I know what I’ll be watching at the end of the month.

What about you all?

Gerald’s Game hits Netflix on September 29th.

Breaking free will require more than keeping her sanity. Based on a novel by Stephen King, Gerald’s Game comes to Netflix on September 29. Only on Netflix.
