The trailer for Predator: Badlands, the follow-up to Prey from director Dan Trachtenberg, is unlike any Predator movie we’ve ever seen and it’s going to kick ass.

Ever since Danny Glover’s Lt Harrigan discovered an Alien (Xenomorph) skull on the Predator ship in Predator 2 in 1990, we’ve wanted to learn more about the Yautjan hunter race and we’ve had plenty of tindbits through movies, comics and games over the years but this looks like the first movie to really dive right in and, speaking of Predator 2, there’s a very big nod to potential proper Alien Vs Predator movie down the line.

The new Predator’s trophy case:

Another cool Easter egg in the trailer, as shown above (in the enhanced image), is the new hunter’s trophy display on his ship which features a dinosaur – the movie is set in the future, so where did he get that? – and what looks a lot like on of the alien suits from Independence Day! There’s various other skulls and at least one looks metallic… is there a Terminator-like race out there or are we finally going to get the Predator V Terminator crossover? Also, and this is a reach, I know, there’s a necklace that reminds me of T’Challa’s… is this a nod to the upcoming Black Panther cmic book? Or perhaps a nod to Marvel in general since they now do the comics? Probably not, but still…

Anyway, another big Easter egg is Elle Fanning’s Thia – when she blinks, we clearly see the Weland-Yutani logo from the Alien universe, just like Andy from last year’s Alien: Romulus, left, and she’s wearing a Weland-Yutani branded Jacket too; this trailer is just a font of fun stuff, isn’t it?

Finally, Thia, who is friends with the young Yautjan hunter, another first in the series, teases that he’s “hunting something that can’t be killed…” if that’s not a mouth-watering tease, I don’t know what is.

Predator: Badlands, which stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, is set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator (Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.

The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and produced by John Davis, Dan Trachtenberg, Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt, Brent O’Connor.

The director of Prey welcomes you to a world of hurt. Experience Predator: Badlands on the big screen, in theaters and IMAX November 7.
