We know what Benicio Del Toro’s name means in The Last Jedi but, em, what does it mean?

September 3rd, 2017 by Marc Comments

We learned a while ago that Benicio DelToro’s character in Star Wars: The Last Jedi was known on set as DJ. The news came from director Rian Johnson who wouldn’t go into detail about what the letters meant or stood for.

However, now that Force Friday II is out of the way, we have a little more detail and probably know what DJ actually stands for.

The Funko POP! figure has been released and, as you can see from the image below, he has a tag on his hat in the Star Wars language known as Aurebesh:

And, because it’s what the nerd/fan community live for, the letters have been translated and they read: “Don’t Join!”

Em, ok.

What does that mean? Well, we assume we’ll find out in the movie… it might mean don’t join the rebellion or don’t join the First Order. But we’re thinking it might be a bit more complicated than that.

Either way, we’ll all know just before Christmas this year.

What do you think it means?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
