Get ready for the new daily show

Wesley Snipes wasn’t told Marvel had found a new Blade

April 18th, 2021 by Marc Comments

While we’re all very excited to see Mahershala Ali step into the MCU as Blade, we’ll never stop saying there’s only one true Blade and that is Wesley Snipes.

He’s Blade in the same way that Hugh Jackman is Wolverine, Robert Downey Jnr is Iron Man and Michael Keaton is Batman.

But, that said, we’re still looking forward to a new Blade, though we’d like to see a connection to the original movies if possible.

Ever since 2015 we’ve been reporting that Snipes has been pushing to get back in the jacket and sunglasses (here) and now he has confirmed he has had discussions with Marvel bossman Kevin Feige but it was surprised to hear that a new actor was stepping into the role.

“We’ve talked, man, and [Feige] always says: ‘Well, you know, we’re thinking about it, we’re trying to figure it out.’

“Then one day I saw in the news, and everybody started calling me up saying: ‘Hey, Mahershala is going to be playing the new Blade’. I was like, ‘Well, I guess Kevin didn’t have my number. Okay.’ So I actually don’t know.

“You know, I’m always willing to rock with anyone who wants to rock with me, you know? We’re doing similar work. We have wonderful product that we will bring to market, and if I can rock with Marvel, that’s great. If I can’t rock with Marvel, all right. You know? I’ll wait by the door. I’ll just put on some nice heels and a nice skirt and something. I’ll just wait by the door and say: ‘Hi Kevin’.”

While we’ve hoped for a while that Snipes may step back into he Blade mythos – perhaps as the father of Ali’s Blade or in the Whistler role, perhaps, it seems that Feige has left no room for the old Blade and that’s a shame, if you ask us… after all, the new era of comic book movies kicked off when Snipes put on those shades in 1998.

What say you all? Is it time to leave the past behind or is there always room to have old and new live in harmony together?

I want to hear those thoughts, folks.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
