We’ve seen Gravity, Interstellar and The Martian, but now it’s time to get excited about 2016’s addition to the sci-fi film genre – Passengers.

Here’s what we know about the movie so far…

According to IMDb, this is the general plot of the film: “A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 60 years early.”

Sounds pretty interesting right?

If that’s not enough to get you excited then the announcement of the main characters might just do it for you. The duo at the heart of the story will be played by none other that Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. Either way, the press tour with these two is going to be hilarious.

As well as that, Michael Sheen and Laurence Fishburne will also be getting in on the action in their respective supporting roles, as we reported a while ago.

In terms of the man behind the camera, Morten Tyldum will be the one keeping everyone right. He’s no Ridley Scott or Christopher Nolan, however, he has had plenty of success in his own right with The Headhunters and Imitation Game which was nominated for an Oscar in 2014.

In terms of the other behind the scenes staff there is plenty to get excited for. The man taking charge of photography is Rodrigo Prieto. In case you’re not familiar with his work, he’s the mastermind cinematographer behind Brokeback Mountain, The Wolf of Wall Street and Martin Scorsese’s new film, Silence, to name but a few.

There are no trailers or images from the set to date but the screenplay (via Squareeyed) has been lurking around in cyberspace since 2007

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
