Word is John Kransinski is in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as Reed Richards… but with a multiverse twist

One of the most popular fancasts for the MCU in recent in recent memory has to be The Office and A Quiet Place’s John Krasinski as Reed Richards – his wife, Emily Blunt, as Sue Storm has been equally popular – and now it seems that it’s happening.

Well, sort of.

The Doctor Strange sequel starring Benedict Cumberbatch is due to hit cinemas this May and a recent test screening has revealed that Marvel has heard the fans when it comes to Krasinski’s casting.

But it’s not quite as clear-cut as you might think.

The movie is set to feature The Illuminati from the comics, a group of powerful and super-intelligent Marvel characters who have a say on the reality of the MCU – it’s rumoured to feature Professor Charles Xavier [James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart have both been rumoured back for the role], Black Bolt from The Inhumans and Reed Richards among others.

Now, following rumours last year that Krasinski has had talks with Marvel boss Kevin Feige about a mystery future project, it seems that Kransinski, according to reports, is in the movie but as a variant Richards.

Variants, as any MCU fan will tell you, are versions of recognisable characters in the MCU but from different universes. These variants can look the same – J Jonah Jameson in No Way Home and the Raimi Spider-man movies or completely different like Toby  Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland all being Peter Parker/spider-man – so this means that, even with Kransinski’s Richards appearing, we don’t know if he will indeed be the same when we meet him in the min MCU.

Although our money is that he will – Krasinski is far too much of a talent and in demand to waste in a clever cameo.

We also don’t know at this stage if Blunt will also appear as Sue Storm.

This is a very exciting bit of news and shows that Marvel are prepared to push the boat out and have a lot of fun with this Multiverse idea.., we just hope it doesn’t turn out to be a clever tease and nothing more.

What say you all?

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife.
