Zachary Levi confirms Shazam! sequel being written to film next year

One of my favourite movies of the year so far with the totally fresh approach to superhero shenanigans that was Shazam! and I’m delighted to be able to report that the sequel is already being planned.

Ahead of hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards, star Zachary Levi talked about the superhero movie which has put him (rightfully so) into the a-list Hollywood category after years skimming the surface with the Marvel movies and the wonderful Chuck under his belt.

“This awards show is an extension of what ‘Shazam!’ has brought me,” Levi said, “It’s helped me jump into a higher caliber of hosting. I love feeling joy and love bringing joy. With this show, I think that is the best approach.”

He also confirms scriptwriting for the sequel has already begun and expects to start filming either in late spring or early summer next year.

With the news last week that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Black Adam (Shazam!’s primary arch-nemisis in the comics) movie has a director attached, I can’t help feeling that worlds are about to collide very soon.

Either way, more Levi and more Shazam! could never be a bad thing.

Thoughts, gang?
