Ever think Iron Man needed to look more… ninja?

Well, imagine no longer! Marvel Entertainment has released images of a new Iron Man figure from fellow Disney subsidiary Square Enix’s Variant Play Arts Kai toyline.

As the name Kai suggests, Tony Stark’s armor has received a ninja-like, manga styled redesign.

The classic Iron Man red and gold has been incorporated in the new design, which is now sleeker and predominantly black.

Square Enix said: “The armor’s detailed articulation highlights several special effect pieces such as the palm repulsor rays, boot jet emissions, micro-missiles projecting from the thighs, back flaps and expandable air brakes on the legs. These additions give all you Iron Man fans the ability to structure the collectible in various actions poses such as the high flying stance or the iconic fist-to-the-ground landing position.”

Now, I’m not saying that this should be a template for Stark’s appearance in Civil War next year, but you gotta admit, it looks bloody cool!

He has been a self-confessed geek for as long as he can remember, having been raised through the 80s on a steady diet of Doctor Who, Star Trek, Red Dwarf and (sigh) Knight Rider. Throw the usual assortment of Saturday morning cartoons into the mix and we have something quite exceptional: someone with an encyclopaedic knowledge of utter tosh; a love of giant robots and spaceships fighting; and the strange desire to leap tall buildings in a single bound while wearing his underpants over his trousers. The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
