With Season 6 of The Walking Dead not even finished, AMC have begun casting for season 7 and its 2016 autumn debut. Alicia Witt (Friday Night Lights) has joined in a new mystery role. The news comes after AMC released a preview of the second half of season 6, teasing “The most formidable and terrifying threat” is yet to come.

Witt announced the news but AMC have not yet confirmed which season the role will appear in. There is still a possibility the appearance could be in season 6, yet it’s most likely season 7. It is speculated that she is likely to be one of Negan’s concubines or a member of a new community Rick and the gang will encounter along the way.

Along with this, AMC have also recently released a featurette for the second half of season 6 (below) which debuts on 14th February. It shows clips from the new episodes along with interviews and clips of the cast and crew using all the language we expect of them.

The second half of season 6 is also expected to introduce three new major characters into the show. This will include; Xander Berkeley as the leader of a new community, Tom Payne as an athletic emissary, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the big bad Negan.

Andrew Lincoln teases the arrival of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan on the show: “This is probably one of the most important castings other than Rick. He’s a beloved fan-favorite, but also a huge foil to Rick and his family. Everybody needs a good baddie, and this is the one that a lot of people have been waiting for for quite some time.”

While Tom Payne praises the control of his incoming character, Paul “Jesus” Monroe: “What I like about him is his control. He is physically and mentally capable, but is careful not to reveal his strengths too quickly. He has the measure of people pretty quickly upon meeting them and is always thinking about the best way to handle any situation he finds himself in. I’m very much looking forward to exploring the character further with the audience. It’s an exciting road ahead.”

The Walking Dead returns on 14th February 2016 on AMC
