We’ve known since 2015 that Amazon had their sights set on a Galaxy Quest TV series (here) and more recently star of the original movie, Tim Allen, said that a sequel or TV series was pretty close (here).
And now we know that Amazon/Paramount TV are pushing ahead with the show and it looks like The League’s Writer-actor-comedian Paul Scheer will be on writing duties, replacing original writer Robert Gordon.
The series is to be a new take on the movie and at the minute it’s unknown if it will be in any way attached to the 1999 movie which starred Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell and Enrico Colantoni.
As we reported above, there was almost a series a few years ago, but as Tim Allen said, Alan Rickman’s tragic passing put the hold on it: “I’m not supposed to say anything — I’m speaking way out of turn here — but Galaxy Quest is really close to being resurrected in a very creative way. It’s closer than I can tell you but I can’t say more than that. The real kicker is that Alan now has to be left out. It’s been a big shock on many levels.”
We’re really looking forward to more Galaxy Quest, but we do think there’s a real possibility that Seth McFarlane has cornered the ‘funny Star Trek’ market with the Orville (here).
