The 1999 mock-sci-fi film Galaxy Quest is set to become a real TV show and is heady to Amazon.

Galazy Quest was clearly a mockery of other science fiction series such as Star Trek – Tim Allen’s character clearly has some Shatner vibes about him. The show also focused of the madness of sci-fi conventions and the many fans that dedicate their lives to the shows they watch.

It is one of those films that is very cheesy and terrible yet, at the same time, a memorable cult classic that we can all enjoy.

It is not yet known whether the TV show will focus on this mockery idea or whether it will be fake TV show the film is based on (we reported as much months ago here). What is interesting is that the original writer Robert Gordon, director Dean Parisot and producer Mark Johnson are all part of this new tv series.

The film worked as a mockery because it was witty and fun and also a self-contained film; a TV series however could find such a task very difficult to maintain for an entire series. What I expect them to do is to make a cheesy Sci-fi TV show based of the TV show within the film. This could work well as it can still be a mockery of the sci-fi shows we’ve learned to love.

As it’s still in its early stages we don’t know when it will be released or any main details yet.
