Tarantino’s cancelled Movie Critic movie sounds like it could have been great

April 28th, 2024 by Marc Comments

Actor/writer/director Quentin Tarantino has long said that his plan was to make ten movies and then step down from the business and until the last couple of weeks, that tenth and final movie was set to be The Movie Critic… however, that’s no longer the case and it sounds like a real pity.

While the movie was set to have Brad Pitt returning for a third collaboration with Tarantino and it may have been in a big way.

According to Tarantino, the movie would have been “based on a guy who really lived but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.”

However, it seems that – and this is why it’s disappointing that the movie isn’t happening now – Tarantino was planning on doing hs own version of the now very popular ‘shared universe’.

According to THR ‘the Hollywood-set tale could serve as a Tarantino goodbye meta-verse with the director’s earlier movies existing in the same era of The Movie Critic (which could work, given that his films have a ’70s vibe). That way, Tarantino could bring back some of the stars of his earlier work to reprise their iconic characters in “movie within a movie” moments, or to play fictional versions of themselves as the actors who played those characters. Another idea was that the film could include a movie theater where some characters could potentially interact with a budding future auteur — such as a 16-year-old Tarantino, who worked as an usher at a Torrence porn theater.

Seeing characters from Tarantino’s past movies interact with each other would certainly have been a thrilling proposition with Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill bill and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood all potentially happening in the same world… meaning that there’s a good chance that Pitt’s casting would have seen him playing Once Upon A Time’s Cliff Booth again.

Whatever happens, we here at FTN Towers will be waiting patiently for his tenth and final movie because, flawed has he may be, he’s never anything less than well worth watching *cough* Kill Bill Vol 3 *cough*.

Thoughts on a Tarantino-verse? Let me know them..
