Poison Ivy series set for DCU with The Penguin showrunner onboard

You may recall that back in July, I reported a series of rumours related to Matt Reeves’ Batman universe and the DCU and in there was a potential Poison Ivy series; well, now it’s official… Pamela Isley is set for her own TV series.

At the time of first reporting, it was unknown if the Ivy series was set for the world of Robert Pattinson’s Batman or for the wider DCU universe and now it’s clear where it’s going and perhaps why there was some confusion.

The series will be set in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU but will have The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc as a producer; it’s possible this is why there was confusion as to which universe it would be in as The Penguin was the first (and now likely only) spinoff from Reeves’ The Batman and, frankly, it was superb.

Tidbit:

In a new interview, the DCU’s other boss, Peter Safran confirmed that Batman is operating during the events of Clayface, saying of the character and Gotham: “We [Safran  and Gunn] haven’t really talked about what he’s doing during the actual events of Clayface. But Batman is there. This is the introduction to the live-action Gotham. We showed a silhouette of Batman in Creature Commandos, so you know he’s around, but this is the first step into the world of Gotham for us.”

Does this mean Batman might appear in the Poison Ivy series? Who knows… but he is out there. Can’t help wondering what he was at while Clayface was up to his supervillain shenanigans though.

Poison Ivy! Two-Face! Zsasz! The Court of Owls! Let’s dive into those big rumours about The Batman: Part II

Poison Ivy is one of Batman’s most famous villains (villainesses?) with her stunning beauty and ability to control plants and utilise poisons to all sorts of ends, including mind control, and she has appeared many times over the years on screen, from Batman: The Animated Series to Batman & Robin, where she was played by (a wasted) Uma Thurman, so she’s no stranger to fans both hardcore and casual alike.

If the series goes ahead, it will join Peacemaker, Creature Commandos and the upcoming People Vs Gorilla Grodd as the next chapter in the DCU on the small screen, although I have a funny feeling that the performance of Clayface, another big Batman villain, on the big screen this weekend will dictate the show’s production or lack of.

Batman and Gotham City make official DCU debut and we have loads of details and news

Personally, I love the idea of Batman’s villains getting put in the spotlight on their own or with the Dark Knight himself; there’s no question that his rogues’ gallery is second to none, so putting them at the heart of the DCU sits just fine with me.

I do have to say though, that with the recent apparent cancellation of The Penguin season 2 and other projects set in that world, it does look like when Reeves’ and now Soderbergh’s The Batman Part II comes out, it’s looking likely that will be the end of that universe, allowing Batman to finally make his debut in Batman: The Brave and the Bold in the DCU. One Batman to rule them all, huh?

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
