THR have revealed that Riggs and Murtagh are coming back… only this time it’ll be on our small screens.
FOX have put out a put-pilot commitment for a Lethal Weapon reboot series from Warner Bros. Television: “the TV version centers on a Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs (originally played by Gibson) who, following the loss of his wife and baby, moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh (Glover), who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.”
The pilot will be penned by Chuck writer Matt Miller, who will executive produce via his Good Session production company. Lin Pictures’ Dan Lin (The LEGO Movie, Suicide Squad) and Jennifer Gwartz are exectuve producing.
Aparently none of the of the creators or star of the four movies will be involved or credited even though they have all given the series their blessing.
We’re a little hesitant here because Lethal Weapon has a special place in our hearts and the idea of it as a TV series and anyone other than Danny Glover and Mel Gibson in the roles has us a little dumbstruck.
No word of wether or not it’ll be a sequel, prequel or full reboot… though we’d imagine it’s a clean start.
What do you all reckon? And who would you cast?
