Arrow season 2: Who is the Black Canary?

August 1st, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

With all these big reveals so far for Arrow Season 2, (The Flash)(DeathSquad)(Bronze Tiger), you’d think we would have a break before another major spoiler was revealed. Think again, at this year’s TCA (Television Critics Association) Summer Press day, CW president Mark Pedowitz has spilled the beans on who exactly is Black Canary, and with the SDCC sizzle reel footage of Black Canary kicking ass in Starling city. It had many wondering just who she was, well here it is.

BEWARE…spoilers ahead!

CW network president Mark Pedowitz, revealed the identity of the Black Canary, the new vigilante in town is Laurel’s sister, Sarah, who everyone believed had died in the shipwreck of the Queen’s Gambit in the shows pilot episode. So it appears that Oliver wasn’t the only person to survive the wreckage. Caity Lotz will play Sarah Lance/Black Canary, though Jacqueline MacInnes Wood originally played her during the first season of “Arrow” for the occasional flashback sequence.

Discussing this further Pedowitz went on to say, “I hope it brings a certain amount of conflict since she’s playing the sister of Laurel Lance. It’s an origin story — don’t know if this character is the Black Canary or is not the Black Canary, but it is an origin story. Remember, Laurel Lance was the Black Canary in the DC Universe.”

So there you have it Arrow fans. What do you make of this startling news, that Sara is alive and well? How will Oliver, more importantly how will Laurel, deal with Sarah’s return? Only time will tell, though if I were a betting man I’d say Sarah will have a bone to pick with Oliver

“Arrow” returns to the CW, on Wednesday, October 9.
