While it’s been well over two years since we heard Ava DuVernay was directing a New Gods movie at DC Comics (here), it seems she’s still setting her sights on DC properties.
News has come out that DuVernay is working with The CW in developing a series based on DC’s Naomi comic.
Written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, “Naomi follows a young woman on her unique hero’s journey. The CW take, which is being written and exec produced by DuVernay and Blankenship, follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event rattles her hometown, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins. What she discovers will challenge everything people believe about superheroes.”
The series comes over to The CW as Supergirl and Black Lightning begin on their final seasons, and word is The CW is looking to rejuvenate their DC catalogue of shows. Although no word so far if this will actually be part of The Arrowverse or if, like Star Girl, it will be (mostly) its own series.
It will also be the first DC property on the network not produced by Greg Berlanti.
We’re not sure if DuVernay’s New Gods movie is still happening but at least she’s still in the DC universe. what do you all think?
