With the recent news that Batwoman star Ruby Rose has quit before filming of Season 2 commenced and then that a new character was to be created – Ryan Wilder – to take over the role (here), fans have been wondering what this would mean for the show.
But not just the show, there was fear that the LGBTQ lead character of Batwoman, AKA Kate Kane, would be forgotten and her sexuality brushed under the carpet.
However, now showrunner Caroline Dries has come out (below) to fans to assure them that this will not happen and to give them a tease to what direction the story will now take.
“As a lesbian who’s been working as a writer for the past 15 years,” Dried wrote, “I’m well aware of the ‘Bury Your Gays’ trope and I have no interest in participating in it… Like you, I love Kate Kane — she’s the reason I wanted to do the show. We’ll never erase her.”
She then added that Kate’s disappearance will be written into the show and will become part of the ongoing story of the show.
What do you all think? Are you excited for these developments or are you or are you worried that this will be certain doom for the show?
Let me know your thoughts, guys…
