As a life-long Stephen King fan, I keep waiting for the day he burns out and, I’ll not lie, it’s felt like it was happening a few times, however he always bounces back.
One of my favourite King tales of the last few years was the Bill Hodges trilogy comprising of Mr Mercedes, Finder Keepers and End of Watch.
These stories see a retired police officer – Bill Hodges – come out of retirement to catch the one killer that got away… Mr Mercedes, a young killer called Brady Hartefield, who ploughed a Mercedes into a crowd of unemployed people one night on a whim, killing several of them.
We are hearing that Hodges will be played by the legendary Brendan Gleeson, while killer Hartsfield was set to be played by the late Star Trek star, Anton Yelchin and will now be played by Penny Dreadful star Harry Treadaway.
Ally McBeal showrunner David E. Kelley will serve as showrunner on the series, which is being produced by Sonar Entertainment. Jack Bender (Lost) is set to direct.
While reading the books I had a clear idea in my head of who Hodges and Hartefield were and, while neither actor was it, I am growing more and more excited for the casting, especially Gleeson – I can see him as a superb Hodges.
