So the last we heard there was a Magnum PI sequel series in the works that was set to focus on his daughter (here), however now it looks like CBS are scrapping the ‘same universe’ approach in favour of a full on reboot.
And their new modern take on the show has already found its lead, Thomas Magnum, in the shape of Suicide Squad star Jay Hernandez.
In the new version, Magnum is “a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator.”
the pilot will be written by CBS’ Peter Lenkov and will be directed by Fast & Furious director Justice Lin.
The aim of the reboot from the beginning was to have a more diverse cast this time out for the series – we’re keen to see who gets cast as Higgins and TC – although, while we’ve no issue with that at all, it’s hard to imagine anyone apart from Tom Sellick in the iconic role.
That said, Hernandez blew us away – and completely stole the show – with his performance as Diablo in Suicide Squad, so could us in as on board for the next flight to Hawaii.
We’ll keep you posted as and when we hear more…
