OK, we’re not going to beat around the bush here… we didn’t report on this because we knew last year that Banshee was going to finish after season four.

We weren’t happy about it. At all. But like Tyrell said in Blade Runner “The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long”. And Banshee has burned so very, very brightly.

Anyway, Cinemax has confirmed that next season, season  four, will be the end of the series.

Cinemax is HBO’s sister channel but sadly, despite Banshee being a superbly tight, graphic and pulse-racing show, it never got the audience it deserved. We at FTN always felt that it belonged on HBO, where it may have found the viewers; but, no matter what way you look at it, Banshee has a simple premise – a criminal tracks his lover to a town called Banshee to get back something she has belonging to him, he accidentally gets in a fight and the town’s new sheriff dies before anyone meets him and the criminal takes the sheriff’s identity. Simple. But effective. And so was born Lucas Hood, one of TV’s greatest anti-heroes.

HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said: “Banshee is a unique and compelling show that helped set high standards for original programming for Cinemax,. The show’s execeptional blend of action and drama earned a vocal and passionate fan base that will not be disappointed in Banshee’s final season.”

The final season kicks off in January 2016

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
