Has FOX plans to go down the Arrow route and expand its DC TV universe?

We’re hearing rumblings that Gotham may be set for the ‘expanded universe’ treatment with a possible spinoff down the road. FOX Chairman and CEO Gary Newman has said that FOX would certainly be keen to explore the world of Gotham in a new road but it has to go through DC first: “We’re really happy with the creative on Gotham this year,” he said.

“We thought the Rise of the Villains has been great, and it feels like a world that has many, many stories to tell. We haven’t had any conversations with Warners about whether or not they’d want to do a spinoff series. I think that would be an issue for DC. It isn’t quite clear to me that they’d be ready to do that, but it’s a good idea.”

Now this isn’t really much to go on but it certainly seems the seed of an idea is there and, given how vastly the show improved from season 1 to season 2, we would certainly love to see something else come along… what, however, is a whole different conversation. Metropolis, anyone?

Gotham: Season 2 returns on February 29th .
