Dammit! Amazon passes on The Dark Tower series

January 19th, 2020 by Marc Comments

One of things I was looking forward to most in the coming months was the first look at Amazon Studio’s The Dark Tower series… finally, the greatest work of Stephen King treated with the respect it deserved and with the expansive world/universe/reality building it deserves.

But, it seems Amazon have forgotten the faces of their fathers as the show is not going ahead.

Rathe than order a full series, Amazon asked for a pilot- starring Sam Strike, Jasper Pääkkönen and Michael Rooker, Jerome Flynn and Joana Ribeiro – to be filmed and, having seen it, passed on bringing it to series.

Dammit!!!

Apparently executive producer/showrunner Glen Mazzara and MRC are hoping that the series will not be ending here, but may still be picked up by another service.

The Dark Tower series is unlike anything else, making Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings look positively small in comparison, and – as we saw with the movie – it’s a story that is notoriously difficult to relay on screen, but many, including myself, thought Amazon and TV were the right way to go.

Is this the last we see of the Dark Tower? Unlikely, after all, there are other worlds than these, but for now, rest Gunslinger, for your journey has reached a stalemate.

Let me know how you feel about the news.

Long days and pleasant nights…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
