If you’ve been following the production of Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television’s God of War series, based on the PlayStation game, you’ll know things haven’t been going smoothly. At all.
Back in June, star Ryan Hurst, who is playing Kratos, the star of the games, tore his bicep and now,, after surgery, it seems he needs to rest and isn’t fit to carry on with filming, forcing Amazon and Sony to pivot.
And pivot they are.
It seems that now they want to replace Hurst, left, with a big name and they’re leaning into longtime fan-cast favourite Dave Bautista for the iconic role.
Bautista, no stranger to action with his career in wrestling and film, has just wrapped filming in Scotland on the Highlander reboot and is expected to join the series, which has already been filming for over five months, under Battlestar Galactica showrunner Ronald D Moore. The original plan was to film seasons one and two back-to-back and this is expected to remain the plan.

I’m also hearing that Atreus, played by young star Callum Vinson, may be getting recast too.
God of War also stars Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamiliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.
