Dave Filoni talks Rebels

With Star Wars Rebels in the ‘so close we can almost taste it’ range, Dave Filoni is getting rather chatty about what we can expect from the series…

And so far, it all sounds great. Speaking to the LA Times, Filoni shows that he just loves talking Star Wars and the Force: “I think that we all agree what we liked about the Force in the original films was it was a less-is-more scenario”.

Many fans are still feeling a little burned after the politics of the prequel movies and it looks like Filoni, who produced Clone Wars, which also got pretty political in places, was keen to point out that this new series will harken back more to the fun days of the original trilogy: “In Rebels, you’ll be in scenarios where you hear things have taken place that are furthering the story, but you won’t be watching those politics unfold”.

And speaking of Clone Wars, a series that is well and truly embraced by Star Wars fans now, Filoni was again keen to set our anxious little minds at rest: “The same team of people in lead roles making Clone Wars is going to be responsible for making Rebels. Not many people seem to have grasped that. To me, there aren’t as many differences as people thought as far as the people making these shows.”

And as for the Star Wars fandom, arguably the most passionate fans out there, Filoni laughs at how the fans are already reacting: “Without even one episode of Rebels airing, people [online] have already figured out how they’re going to kill off characters,” Filoni said.

It’s “Morbid but exciting, I think,” he added…

Star Wars Rebels will air this September

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
