Despite terrible ratings, Doctor Who is not going anywhere, says BBC drama chief

So, look, I make no secret of my feelings towards the most recent incarnation of Doctor Who (Jodie Whitaker has the makings of a great Doctor, Chis Chibnall and the rest have no clue how to handle the series and sometimes it feels like they are trying to destroy the show’s legacy – in a nutshell) but, love it or hate it, there’s no denying that the ratings are dropping and the public’s feelings towards it are… waning.

Waning so much, in fact, that rumors have abounded that this series will be the show’s final for the foreseeable future, with the word being that Whitaker has vowed to never return to the role for crossovers, specials or anything of that like.

However, the BBC’s drama chief Piers Wengar has shot down any such rumours, saying the show is safe at the BBC and there’s no intentions of shutting it down.

The BBC’s drama chief Piers Wenger has defended Doctor Who following a drop in ratings and a mixed reception from fans for Season 12 of the sci-fi drama.

At a BBC drama even in London, Wenger said: “I worked on Doctor Who myself and produced it for many years and I can honestly say I don’t think it’s been in better health editorially. The production values have never been better. It’s also not just funded by the BBC, it’s funded by lots of international partners.

“It’s an incredibly important show for young audiences, it’s still watched by families in a world where there are fewer shows that have the power to do that. It will always be an important show for us and we’re a very long way from wanting to rest it.”

So, there you have it, while we’re pretty sure Whitaker is done after this series, it looks like the Doctor who be regenerating into a new actor to carry on the legacy… it’s sad that Whitaker never got the writing she deserved, but if she takes Chibnall with her, then, well, it’ll be worth it.

Thoughts, Whovians? I would like to hear them…
