Doctor Who actress Jenna-Louise Coleman has revealed there will be several big revelations in the final episode of the seventh series which will lead into the BBC sci-fi drama’s highly anticipated 50th anniversary special later this year.
Among the plot twists, viewers will discover why the birthday of Clara’s Victorian alter-ego – who appeared alongside Matt Smith’s Doctor in the 2012 Christmas special ‘The Snowmen’ – is so significant. The character’s birthday falls on November 23, the same day ‘Doctor Who’ first aired in 1963.
Jenna-Louise explained to TV Guide: “In the Christmas episode, I didn’t know why that was the case. But again, we will find out by the end of this series. It’s really exciting. It is phenomenal. My spine was tingling when I read it.
“Again, I’m teasing you so badly here, but there’s the beginning opening sequence, which is kind of building up into the 50th [anniversary episode]. It’s just huge.”
Jenna also discussed what it was like filming in the newly built TARDIS which was introduced in last year’s Christmas episode. “It was strange because obviously it was a brand new TARDIS, so it was a set that nobody’s ever used before or seen before at this point. But this is where you’re going to be for however many [of] the next couple of seasons or years, so it’s like mine and Matt’s new place.”
