The Duffer brothers have parted ways with Netflix, but don’t panic Stranger Things fans…
Yes, it’s been confirmed that Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators and showrunners of the wildly popular series Stranger Things at Netflix, have signed a four-year deal with Paramount and are departing Netflix
The news comes just ahead of Stranger Things’ final season, which kicks off on November 26th.
The brothers will be with Netflix until April next year.
Stranger Things’ Duffer Brother reveal details and stellar cast for their new Netflix series
Their new Paramount deal covers film, TV and streaming projects, with the brothers hoping to write, produce and direct films.
As per THR: “The Duffers will develop their Paramount slate via their Upside Down Pictures banner, led by president Hilary Leavitt.”
The brothers said of the deal: “We couldn’t be more thrilled to be joining the Paramount family. David, Josh [Greenstein], and Dana [Goldberg] are passionate about bringing bold, original films to the big screen. To be part of that mission is not just exciting — it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
“To do so at a studio with such a storied Hollywood legacy is a privilege we don’t take lightly. We’re also excited to reunite with our friends Cindy and Matt, who were among the very first to believe in us and an unusual little script we wrote that became Stranger Things. They took a chance on us in 2015, and they’re taking a chance again — we can’t wait to create new stories together.”

I said at the top of this article that Stranger Things fans have nothing to worry about as the report goes on: “We’re excited to continue collaborating — not only on the upcoming release of Stranger Things 5, but also on shows we’re deeply proud to be producing, including Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen and The Boroughs. And we look forward to building out the future of Stranger Things together — there are many more stories to tell beyond Hawkins, and we can’t wait to share them.”
The brothers will remain attached as producers and will be heavily involved on all Stranger Things projects moving forward… and I have a feeling there’s going to be quite a few to come.
I’m a big fan of the Stranger Things world and as much as I love to see creatives stretch their muscles, I am also more than happy to know that the creators of Stranger Things will still be overseeing that world; it’s the best of both worlds, really.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
