Ok, so we reported at the start of 2016 that BBC America was planning on bringing Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently to the small screen.
And now we have news that Dirk has been cast.
Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood has been cast as Gently in the eight-part series written by American Ultra’s Max Landis.
Adams and Gently fans will remember that the character was previously played by Stephen Mangan on the BBC4 version in 2010 and 2012.
While we don’t have an issue with this as we’r BIG fans of the late Douglas Adams, we really want to see someone – BBC would be a perfect choice given they released the original series and with Doctor Who being one of the biggest things in the Nerdsphere – picking up Adams’ true Masterpiece, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for a TV series. We loved a lot of the stuff in the movie that happened a few years ago but that adventure is crying our for the small screen.
Maybe if Gently does well we’l see it…
Dirk Gently is a comedic thriller that follows the bizarre adventures of eccentric “holistic” detective Dirk Gently and his reluctant assistant Todd (Wood), as they wend their way through one big, seemingly insane mystery a season, crossing unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and sometimes dangerous characters, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth.
