One of the biggest issues we have with the MCU is that, despite Marvel’s declaration of ‘it’s all connected’, it’s, well, not.
We know Agents of SHIELD’s Agent Coulson came from the movies but outside of the odd wink and nod, there’s pretty much no connection. Same with the Netflix shows; surely they should have the same boots on the ground as Tom Holland’s Spider-man.
Lord only knows what the deal will be with the upcoming New Warriors and Cloak and Dagger.
However, within these different shows, it seems that the upcoming Runaways will exist within the same reality as the Netflix shows.
It seems that Jeph Loeb, the man behind the Netflix shows, has confirmed that the two DO co-exist:
Jeph Loeb says that @Runaways lives in the same world as Netflix’s Marvel shows, how it’s connected remains to be seen. #TCA17

However, this doesn’t mean we’ll see the Defenders meeting up with the children whose parents are international villains.
It’s not likely that Hulu will have Matt Murdock in The Runaways, which seems to be a problem with all the Marvel properties being so finely spread – it’s this reason that we’ll never see Spider-man meeting Kingpin and it’s unlikely we’ll ever see Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage teaming up with Iron Man and the Avengers against Thanos in Infinity War.
For now, despite this connection, we’ll have to do what we always do… pretend it’s all connected and regret the fact that, despite existing in this world, these characters will never meet.
Probably.
