Get ready for the new daily show

Finally! Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Specials get release dates – and awesome posters!

October 25th, 2023 by Marc Comments

We finally have the release dates for the highly anticipated three-part Doctor Who anniversary specials.

With the series debuting on November 23rd, 1963, everyone thought the first special would arrive on the 23rd but it seems that we’ll have another two days to wait!

Part 1: The Star Beast premieres Nov. 25th
Part 2: Wild Blue Yonder arrives on Dec. 2nd
Part 3: The Giggle premieres Dec. 9th.

The limited series will see fan-favourite David Tennant return as the Doctor and the amazing Catherine Tate coming back as Donna Noble, now Donna Temple-Noble as well as Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart with newcomers Yasmin Finney as Rose Temple-Noble, Miriam Margolyes as the voice of the Meep and Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham.

LISTEN: The new Doctor Who theme is here and it’s great! PLUS new details on the 60th Anniversary

The three episodes will reunite the Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna Temple-Noble (Catherine Tate) as they come face-to-face with their most terrifying villain yet: the Toymaker (played by Neil Patrick Harris in his ‘Doctor Who’ debut).

The great thing about these dates is that just two weeks later we’ll have the Christmas episode which will see new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa make his debut – Gatwa’s second season has already started filming (here), so confidence is high.

Interstingly, the announcements seem  to indicate that the show, for the first time in its history, will not be on BBC One but rather on BBC iPlayer and Disney+:

We also got cracking new posters for each episode too, which you can see below.

All being said, while not airing on BBC One seems to be a massive misstep – celebrating a BBC One series’ 60th by not airing it on the channel? – I’m pretty excited for these all and to have Doctor Who back on our screens, especially at Christmas time!

Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s FacebookTwitter and Instagram

And the trailer that dropped for Disney+ viewers… it’s so odd seeing the Disney logo on Doctor Who, isn’t it?

Classic and New Doctor Who coming to BBC iPlayer along with tonnes of notes, audio and so, so much more

Here’s the original title and date announcements:

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
