We’ve known for a while that Alfred Pennyworth, loyal Butler to Bruce Wayne, is set to get his own series called Pennyworth, that will follow him in his early days as an all-round badass before he met the Waynes.
Our friends over at Omega Underground have gotten their hands on footage, below, of British actor Tom Brittany’s audition footage for the role of Alfred (click the link for more clips).
Of the new series, they write: “Young Alfred is very much a self-centered young man. Who rather make fun of British high society than be a part of it.
“Alfred must secretly infiltrate the Wayne household and abduct Thomas Wayne for an unknown villain.”
Interesting… Alfred meets the Waynes when he abducts Thomas? This could be a cool way to go, with Alfred being an anti-hero to start with?
What we formerly knew of the series:
Epix, MGM-owned premium cable network, has green-lit a ten-part, straight to series called Pennyworth, which will chronicle the rise of Batman’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth and will come from Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller.
The series will revolve around Alfred Pennyworth, the best friend and butler to Bruce Wayne (aka Batman). The series is not a Gotham spinoff but rather an entirely new story exploring Alfred’s origins as a former British SAS soldier who forms a secret company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne — Bruce’s billionaire father — in 1960s London. Sean Pertwee, who plays Alfred Pennyworth on Fox’s recently renewed Gotham, is not involved. Casting has not yet begun and the series is set in a completely different universe despite hailing from Heller and producers Warner Horizon.
The show will not be related to Gotham, the DC movies, any of The CW’s DC shows or even any of the upcoming DC Universe shows, and will, instead, be a completely separate shows… even though it’s from the people who created Gotham.
Anyway check out the footage and let us know your thoughts.
