FIRST LOOK: Blade Runner anime series, Black Lotus, looks utterly stunning!

July 27th, 2020 by Marc Comments

After the news late last year that a Blade Runner anime project was coming (here), I have been pacing the walls, waiting for more information.

And now we have our first awesome look and it seems the off world colonies still await…

while we know there is likely several projects coming, tonight we have our first look at Adult Swim and Crunchyroll’s Blade Runner: Black Lotus and it looks simply gorgeous!

The images are in-progress shots from the first anime series.

The series will be 13 episodes and – best news yet! – will be directed by Appleseed’s Shinji Aramaki and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex’s Kenji Kamiyama.

The series will be set in 2032 and will feature pre-established characters from the franchise.

Aramaki previously worked on the Blade Runner universe as mechanical designer on 2049’s prequel short Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 which was animated by Sola Digital Arts who will be bringing us this new series.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
