Yes! Dexter Morgan is back, y’all!
During Viacom’s Sizzle Reel for its upcoming shows, our first glimpse was revealed of Michael C Hall as everyone’s favourite serial killer.
The glimpse, we’re told, was brief and had Dexter staring into a mirror with a serious look on his face before giving us a wry smile… that’s it; that’s the tease – check out the images below.
But, honestly, just knowing Dexter is coming back is enough right now. But will it top the awful final season of the show’s original run?
In an earlier interview, Hall commented: “I’m looking forward to getting back into Dexter’s shoes. I don’t really know what to expect, as I’ve never returned to a job after so much time. Having Dexter in a completely different context, we’ll see how that feels. It’s been interesting to figure out how to do that and I thought it was time to find out what the hell happened to him.”
When last we met Dexter he had seen his life fall apart: his sister had died and his girlfriend had left with his son while Dexter vanished to a remote community where he hid as a bearded lumberjack. God, it was awful.
But hopefully this can redeem our (anti) hero: “Let’s be real,” Hall commented, “people found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying, and there’s always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling.
“I include myself in the group of people that wondered, ‘What the hell happened to that guy?’ So, I’m excited to step back into it. I’ve never had that experience of playing a character this many years on.”
The series will also star Jamie Chung as a crime podcaster and Oscar Wahlberg – it also stars Clancy Brown as the villain Kurt Caldwell, “the unofficial mayor of the small town of Iron Lake. He’s realized the American dream by going from driving big rigs, just like his father did, to now owning several trucks and the local truck stop. Powerful, generous, loved by everyone – he’s a true man of the people. If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed. But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for, God help you.”
It will be a ten-episode series under original showrunner Clyde Phillips and is currently filming in Central Massachusetts.
While we don’t know when exactly, Dexter will return later this year… and not a moment too soon.
Thoughts? Let me hear ’em…
