Gotham Season 2 really upped the ante as it introduced a lot of classic Batman villains while young Bruce Wayne stepped closer and closer to becoming the Guardian of Gotham and along with introducing Mr Freeze and others, one scene hinted at another classic villain appearing next season… Jervis Tetch AKA Mad Hatter.

And now we know who’ll be playing this one of Batman’s more eccentric villains: The Walking Dead’s Benedict Samuel.

It is thought Tetch will be a series regular in Season 3 and he’ll have a big story in the show:

Jervis Tetch is a talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness. He arrives in Gotham with an unwavering desire to find his sister, Alice, a young woman who went missing in the city years ago. It is anyone’s guess just how far down the rabbit hole he’s willing to go in order to find her. Debuting in 1949 in Batman #49, Tetch is one of the very, very many aspects of Batman lore co-created by Bill Finger, who in 2015 was finally acknowledged by DC Comics as the official co-creator of Batman himself. Like many villains who debuted during the golden age of comics, The Mad Hatter was originally a comical figure before being reimagined as a much darker character beginning in the 1970s.

From writer/executive producer Bruno Heller, Gotham follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

You will remember Samuel played The Wolf in The Walking Dead and managed to be one of the show’s most memorable villains last year, so it will certainly be interesting to see what he brings to the role of Hatter in Gotham.

Do you think this is inspired or mad? Let us know…
