Man, talk about big boots to fill…

FX has announced that they are moving ahead with Very Young Frankenstein, a prequel series based on Mel Brooks’ iconic 1974 movie, Young Frankenstein, which starred Gene Wilder as Dr Frederick Frankenstein, Peter Boyle as the Monster, Marty Feldman as Igor, Teri Garr as Inga, and Brooks himself as the voice of Victor Frankenstein.

The new project will be overseen by What We Do In the Shadows’ Stefani Robinson, Taika Waititi and Garrett Basch with Mel Brooks acting as a producer. The Pilot episode, written by Robinson and directed by Waititi, stars Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells, Spencer House, Nikki Crawford, Kumail Nanjiani, and Cary Elwes.

Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, said of the pilot: “Very Young Frankenstein blends inspiration from the fan-favorite movie with the inventive, irreverent spirit that has defined FX comedies over the years, making this a completely original take on the classic story In the hands of FX veterans Stefani, Taika and Garrett, alongside the iconic Mel Brooks, we know that fans will have as much fun watching this series as we’re having making it.”

Young Frankenstein is one of the all-time great comedies, it’s iconic and hilarious to this day, so stepping up to that plate seems like a ballsy move, so I’m not surprised the What We Do In the Shadows guys are overseeing it, I just don’t know if they can create a series that will fit confortably into the world created by Brooks and Wilder. But I guess in the next year or so, we’ll all find out.

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
