Gellar talks about what the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer show will be

She’s coming back and Sarah Michelle Gellar is finally talking about the new series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and giving us an idea of what we can expect from the Slayer’s return.

“It will be lighter than the last few seasons of the original. We will try to find a balance between new and old characters. My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well,” Gellar says, referring to the original series’ final couple of seasons when the series got a lot darker as Buffy died (for real) and came back, disrupting the Slayer line and revealling that she never wanted to be resurected; it also had Buffy and the team save the world one last time, with several major characters dying in the final moments, laying down their lives to close the Hallmouth once and for all.

It was a great way to end the show but for fans who had been there since the start, it was a rollercoaster of emotions.

She goes on: “We’re trying to figure out how to modernize the themes of the series, especially what it means to feel like an outsider in a world dominated by social media. What we want to explore are the space-time boundaries that affect society today.”

Of course, saying she wants to bring everyone back doesn’t mean that suddenly everyone is dead, after all, Buffy has a history of visions, ghosts and flashbacks, so there are a million ways to bring back faces long gone, something similar perhaps to what Dexter Resurrection is planning on doing as Dexter sees and hears long gone characters as he awakes from a coma?

Sarah Michelle Gellar confirms Buffy will still be ‘slaying’ in new series

Whatever happens, I am very excited to see what the show is, although I can’t lie, with what has happened so many franchises I love dearly in recent years, I am worried about the possibility that we could be on the verge of another Doctor Who… but I hope not.

Thoughts? Are you excited for the return of Buffy Summers? I want to know what you all think…

Meanwhile, Gellar is hitting the gym to get into Buffy shape!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
