Audible brings back Buffy the Vampire Slayer stars for new adventure

September 14th, 2023 by Marc Comments

Yes! The Scoobies are back!

It’s been 20 years since Sarah Michelle Gellar hung up the ol’ stake and called it a day (Mr Pointy, for those who don’t recall) and there’s been books, comics and games since to fill in the years the came after before and during) but for the first time, we have a totally official, in-universe continuation… and it’s only a month away!

Yes, Audible, the lovely people who now dominate the audiobook market and who gave us the rather brilliant Sandman series, have stepped up to save the world and they’ve brought back a load of the original cast.

But not Gellar’s Buffy, sadly.

Yes, on October 12th, Slayers: A Buffyverse Story will hit the service and it will be from writers Amber Benson (who played Tara in the TV series) and Christopher Golden, who wrote several Buffy novels over they years and it will see the return of Benson, Anthony Head as Giles, Charisma Carpenter as Cordelia, Juliet Landau as Drusilla, James Charles Leary as the demon Clem, Danny Strong as Jonathan, Emma Caulfield Ford as Anya, and of course, James Marsters as Spike.

Yay!

Original cast members from the beloved TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reunite for an all-new adventure about connections that never die—even if you bury them.

A decade has passed since the epic final battle that concluded Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV). The game-changing spell that gave power to all potential Slayers persists. With new Slayers constantly emerging, things are looking grim for the bad guys. Rebellious vampire Spike (James Marsters) is working undercover in Los Angeles with his old pal Clem (James Charles Leary) when he meets feisty, rookie Slayer, Indira (Laya DeLeon Hayes), who wants Spike to be her mentor. Stakes intensify as Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter) emerges from an alternate reality where she alone is the Slayer, and Buffy Summers doesn’t exist.

Cordelia enlists Spike’s help with a classic big bad terrorizing her world…his ex, Drusilla (Juliet Landau). Giles (Anthony Head), Anya (Emma Caulfield Ford), Jonathan (Danny Strong), and Tara (Amber Benson) also return, but through the years and the vastness of the multiverse, not everyone is who they used to be…

Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is written and directed by Amber Benson and Chris Golden, and co-directed by Kc Wayland.

It’s really sad that Gellar and David Boreanaz, who played Angel, couldn’t return although they both have previously made it clear they weren’t interested in coming back to the series.

As for where this fits in the now-established comic book canon which continued the story in an official capacity, I’ve heard the term ‘multiverse’ several times (well, it IS a buzzword right now), so I guess that means decide for yourself?

Anyway, it’ll be fun to have

“Slayers: A Buffyverse Story” will be available to listen to and download through Audible on October 12, 2023.

Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s FacebookTwitter and Instagram

Sarah Michelle Gellar says she will never return as Buffy the Vampire Slayer but hopes the Slayer story continues someday
