Still unhappy about how Game of Thrones ended in 2019? Well, you might be in luck.
While the hit show left many fans (and cast members) with a bad taste in their mouths, the world of Westeros has carried on strong, with House of the Dragon already renewed for season four and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which kicks off in January, already renewed for season 2, nut so far, we’ve had no further stories set after the original show.
But it seems we will be getting just that.
At the recent 2025 Iceland Noir Festival, author George RR Martin confirmed that there’s more than one sequel series in development, meaning that we may not have seen the last of Tyrion, Sansa, and the rest.

Asked what the future of the franchise is, Martin said that, as well as the shows we already know about, “a sequel or two” is also in development.
The writer said: “Apart from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms & House of the Dragon, there are other Game of Thrones spinoff projects in development. The majority are prequels, and there are several in development – maybe 5 or 6 shows. And I’m not developing them alone, I’m working on them with other people. And yes, there’s a sequel or two [in the works].”
In fairness, Martin has previously hinted at a Maisie Williams return to the franchise as Arya Stark (here) as well as Kit Harrington’s return as Jon Snow (here), so this isn’t the first time we’ve heard this, although the Jon Snow series is reportedly dead in the water now.

What we do know is that there are many projects in development set in the world of Game of Thrones, from movies to shows to animation, so learning that some of these will be sequels does seem to make sense.
While House of the Dragon has yet to reach the heights of Game of Thrones (will anything?), the world of Westeros is definitely one fans are happy to spend time in, and it seems that those fans are many in number.
Let’s just hope they can keep up the quality, rather than focusing on the quantity.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
