If you’re one of the legions of Game of Thrones fans waiting on author George RR Martin finishing the novels, then I might have some bad news for you,
In a new interview, Martin talks about finishing his A Song of Ice and Fire saga in final book The Winds of Winter, and puts some doubt on his longevity allowing him to wrap up the story his way, rather than how it happened in the TV show: “Unfortunately, I am 13 years late. Every time I say that, I’m [like], ‘How could I be 13 years late?’ I don’t know, it happens a day at a time.”
George RR Martin teases Game of Thrones project with Maisie Williams returning
Martin, left, has thrown himself fully into the world of Thrones on the TV screen, advising on the original series, House of the Dragon and some of the upcoming shows/movies but sadly, that came at the expense of finishing his books but Martin believes that he’s still around right now and that will always give hope of the story being finished on the written page.
He goes on: “But that’s still a priority. A lot of people are already writing obituaries for me. [They’re saying] ‘Oh, he’ll never be finished.’ Maybe they’re right. I don’t know. I’m alive right now! I seem pretty vital!”
Martin’s progress on the final book has been a cause of frustration and anger for many of the fans out there who really wanted to see how he had actually planned on ending the story but as of now, they only have the very lacklustre final season of the TV series and they’re starting to worry, perhaps rightly, that will be all they have in the end.
