Well, now that the writers’ strikes in Hollywood are coming to an end [hopefully], we have lots of great new stuff to look forward to in the world of movies and TV, with everyone being treated properly and AI and improper usage of people’s images reduced to a bad dream.
And it seems that top of the list of exciting new things is… The Office.
Yes, it seems that Greg Daniels, who developed The Office in the US, is set to reboot the series.
Yup.
And that’s all I know. Now, I know there are going to be cries of ‘but why?’ and I’m right there with you but we need to remember that the 2005-2013 Office itself as the majority of you know it, was a reboot of Ricky Gervais’ The Office in the Uk and, on top of that, there’s about 15 other versions of the show across the world in different countries, languages etc, so to be really precious over the series that starred Steve Carrell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and Rainn Wilson is a bit pointless.
Plus the fact, there’s money to be made. And, no doubt even more important than the money, several of the original cast, including Krasinski, have said in the past that they would come back if the series ever reappeared.
That said, as of now, there’s no word on what it would be – Daniels has hinted in the past that he wanted to make a series that ran alongside the original, well, the US version, set in the same world but featuring a new cast and a new situation.
Look, I liked The Office well enough but there’s no question that once Carrell’s Micheal Scott departed the series, it totally fell apart – the last season is close to unwatchable, so having it return in one form or another doesn’t really fill me with excitement but as Wilson’s Dwight said in the show: “Identity theft is not a joke, Jim! Millions of families suffer every year.”
Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
