Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller would love to reboot The Avengers (not those ones)

When Marvel’s Avengers Assemble came out many people wondered why we in the UK couldn’t stick with the name every other country had given it: The Avengers. It’s one of those things that makes a name or show sound truly strange unless you know the reasoning why. The reasoning was simple; The Avengers was once a British TV series that aired from 1961 till 1969.

Most people going to see Marvel’s would not remember it or even know of its existence. I remember thinking that back in 2012 when Avengers Assemble came out and the name change reasons became apparent. This is all about to change though.

Brian Fuller, the producer of Hannibal, recently discussed the TV series he’d like to reboot and he chose The Avengers. The Avengers is a spy comedy TV series that follows the story of John Steed, an eccentrically suave British agent with predominantly female partners, his most famous being Emma Peel, who was played by beautiful Diana Rigg (Olenna Tyrell from Game of Thrones).

Fuller even suggested who he believes could play Steed. “I would love to reboot The Avengers with Eddie Izzard as John Steed.” Eddie Izzard does have the eccentricity factor and he is a highly intelligent and funny man that the show needs. I wouldn’t mind that in the slightest. However it all goes done to the comedy aspect. If they want it to be a more serious but still joky crime show then Izzard could be a bad choice. Others believe Idris Elba could be a good bet, and if he did do well that would put his bond rankings up a thousand fold. Idris Elba is there for a more serious role so like I said, it’s all down to the level of comedic factor of the show.

Another suggestion has been Natalie Dormer as Emma Peel. Dormer currently plays Margery Tyrell, the granddaughter of Diana Rigg’s character in Game of Thrones, so could easily gain pointers from her. Furthermore she’s not shy of action and stars in the Hunger Games: Mocking Jay films.
