We reported quite some time ago – last April in fact –  that Marvel and Freeform “younger-skewing ABC-owned network” were moving ahead with the Cloak and Dagger series.

And now we may have casting news, character descriptions and even a director for the Pilot episode.

First up, we’re hearing from reliable sources that Heroes’ Noah Gray-Cabey and Radio Rebel’s Debby Ryan will play the lead characters of Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen, respectively.

According to the MCU Source: “We found some interesting social media activity that could tie the two actors to the show. Cabey, who recently finished filming the second season of Code Black, was also recently followed on Twitter by Joe Pokaski, the showrunner for Cloak and Dagger. While that piece of evidence is tenuous by itself, given our information and the fact that the vast majority of the people Pokaski follows on Twitter are either people he has worked with or people associated with Marvel, it certainly seems less than coincidental.

“In searching through Ryan’s Twitter, we found that she follows the official Marvel Cloak and Dagger Twitter page. Ryan doesn’t follow many people, and even fewer shows. Of those, Cloak and Dagger is definitely the outlier and adds another breadcrumb to our trail.”

The two actors (pictured below) are in their early 20s, which would be the right ages for the characters who are runaway teens.

But just who are Cloak and Dagger? Well, we also have character descriptions for two new lead characters for a new show that everyone is assuming is indeed Cloak and Dagger;

They are as follows:

Series Regular Female (17). Female, 18 to play 17, Caucasian. Tara was a plucky Open southern girl who grew up with everything. She was always full of light. Then an accident took away everything. Now she’s a cynic who steals from tourists to make ends meet. Life took from her. She’s going to take back. But can that light be rekindled? Series Lead.

Series Regular Male (17). Male. 18 to play 17. African American. When Travis was a Open little boy he was fearless. But then he made a mistake and it cost him dearly. So Travis grew up in a fear. Scared of a world he couldn’t control. So he controlled what he could. Keeping his head down, focusing on school and basketball. Locking in on fear. But is that brave boy still in there? Series Lead.

It’s worth noting that the characters in the comics are called Tandy and Tyrone, not Tara and Travis, although it’s believed this may be just for the casting news and not actually the names they’ll use in the series.

We are also hearing that Gina Prince-Bythewood, director of The Secret Life of Bees and Love And Basketball is set to direct the pilot which will begin filming in February 14th – apt, huh?

Still no word if Cloak and Dagger is actually part of the MCU yet… although  we reckon, like pretty much all the Marvel shows, it will be part of the same story but it’s unlikely we’ll ever see them in the movies.

Described as a superhero love story, Cloak and Dagger is based on the titular comic book duo (also known as Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson) who have appeared in Marvel Comics classics, including Spiderman and X-Men stories.The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.
