HBO Max’s Green Lantern Corp finds its Guy Gardner

May 1st, 2021 by Marc Comments

It looks like the Green Lantern TV Series being developed at HBO Max has scored its first major bit of casting.

The series, from creator of The CW’s Arrowverse, Greg Berlanti, called Green Lantern Corp, will explore the universe of the Lanterns and is expected to delve into the lore of the Corp.

American Horror Story’s Finn Wittrock has been cast to play Green Lanter Guy Gardner, “a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism. And yet, Guy is somehow likable”.

Written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Seth Grahame-Smith, Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner (Wittrock) and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.

While it’s expected that one of the more modern Lanterns – Gardner is a product of the 90s and, as such, could well be a hero we can laugh with and at, if played correctly – will lead the series, it’s exciting to know that we’ll be delving into the lore and rich collection of characters.

for the record, I still would love to Arrow’s David Ramsey pick up the lead in the series as John Stewart, once he filmly becomes part of the Lantern Corp in The Arrowverse later this year (here) – after all, the DC universe is all connected.

Thoguhts on the show, the casting and the return of Ramsey as Stewart, I want to hear them all.
