Hulu’s Locke and Key adaptation has its lead cast in place and Danny Glover has signed up too

It was confirmed earlier this year (April in fact) that a Locke and Key TV Pilot was in the works and now we have some very interesting casting details.

The series is being produced by Showrunner, Lost, Bate’s Motel and The Strain’s, Carlton Cuse along with It director Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Lindsey Springer, who serves as head of Cuse’s production company. IDW Entertainment president David Ozer, IDW CEO Ted Adams and c0-creator/writer Joe Hill will also executive produce. IDW is the company that put out the phenomenal comic book series.

Given how big a time it has been recently for Stephen King adaptations (here and here), it seems only fair his son, Joe Hill, should also have a time in the spotlight.

Well now we have some very cool details on cast members and we’re even more excited…

So, newcomer Jack Mulhern has been cast as the show’s star, while Lethal Weapon star (and all round legend) Danny Glover has signed on too.

Mulhern will play Tyler Locke, the oldest son of Rendell and Nina and a protective older brother to his siblings. After his dad is murdered, Tyler has to grow up quickly and wrestles with being a teenager and filling his father’s shoes as man of the house. Tyler’s life is even more complicated after discovering his ancestral family home has magical keys that give him a vast array of powers and abilities.

While Glover’s role will be probably only be a cameo and is unlikely – at this stage – to be a recurring role – he will play Joe Ridgeway, the eccentric English teacher at Matheson Academy. After the gruesome murder of their father Rendell, the Locke family moves to Matheson. Joe becomes a mentor to the Locke children and a friend to Nina, but he also knows some of the tragic secrets Rendell kept from his family.

leo cast is A.I and Bedazzled star Frances O’Connor who will star as Nina, mother of the Locke children and widow; IT’s Megan Charpentier will play her daughter Kinsey Locke, while Jackson Robert will be the show’s star (if it follows the books), playing young Bode Locke. Harry’s Law and The Heat star Nate Corddry will play Duncan Locke, the children’s uncle and an important character in the tale.

The hardest part will be casting the young actors and being sure they can fill the roles properly… Locke and Key is a dark, complex and layered tale that could be the next Game of Thrones. Provided Hulu treat it properly.
