“I’m not involved” says Lucy Lawless about the Xena reboot

With all the talk recently about Xena: Warrior Princess returning, including from the original Xena herself, Lucy Lawless (here), it seemed a given that she would be involved in some capacity… well, think again.

We know the studio wanted a younger Xena this time out and, like many, we figured Lawless would play an older Xena this time out, mentoring the younger student. Nope.

“I really don’t see that. I’m probably not up for that gig. I can’t imagine how you could tell the story with me at 47-years-old and make it work. I’ve never received a call about [the reboot]; it’s nothing to do with us, honestly, [though] I know [original series executive producer and Lawless’s husband] Rob [Tapert] is meeting with them.”

However, given the current trend for reboots, reimaginings, sequels etc, the actress really seems to wish the new Xena all the best: “It’d be crazy not to make it one way or another.

“I just hope they can honor the original intent of the show…and I really do want Xena and Gabrielle to live again one way or another. I’d love to be part of that, but even if I’m not, I wish them well.”

So, if Lawless is out, are you? Voice off below or on the social pages…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
