We’re filing this one under MASSIVE RUMOUR but it’s still interesting to toy with the idea…
Jedi News are reporting that they are “hearing rumblings in the Force that Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has been linked to a future Star Wars movie.”
Now, if he is attached, will it be to Episode IX, perhaps? Or the spin-off movie which is still without a writer or director? Will he be directing? Producing? Writing? No-one is saying – which is why we’re thinking there’s very little, if anything, to this.
However, there is a little history between Who, Wars and Moffat – in 2008 Lucasfilm wanted former Who front-runner Russell T Davis to come on board the live action Star Wars project – then called Underworld – but he flat-out refused. Another link is that Moffat worked on the script of Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn which was produced by none other than now Star Wars/Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, so there is the possibility that there is a grain of something… a slim possibility… or at least they are aware of him.
And, give Moffat’s scheduling convictions with Sherlock and Who, we’d have to think if it did happen, it would be a long way off…
So, what would you think? Is Moffat the man to look after a part of the Star Wars universe? Feel free to sound of in the usual ways on Facebook or @nerdfollowing
