Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith has stated that he is so eager to play The Doctor again that he has approached showrunner Steven Moffat asking how soon the next multi-Doctor story would be.
“I love the idea of other Doctors coming back. Also that gives me the opportunity to come back, which I totally will by the way!” said Smith at the Calgary expo, “I’m just waiting for the next anniversary. I spoke to Steven the other day and said ‘what’s the quickest one we can do?’”
This is interesting, as Smith seemed to love playing the time lord and showed no signs of wanting to step down from the role. Even when his successor, Peter Capaldi, was announced during a BBC special Smiths pre-recorded congratulatory message seemed filled with regret and sadness, as though he had been forced to give up the role. So now with this reveal that he wants another opportunity to play the 11th Doctor again as soon as possible, perhaps his time on the show WAS cut short?
As for the possibility to return there’s always the 10th anniversary of the revival next year, but with it coming so soon after the 50th anniversary, and seeing as the revived series is part of Doctor Who overall, we doubt very much that this will be a likely cause for celebration.
See you in 10 years for the 60th, Matt.
