Variety is reporting that actor James Franco has signed on to star and produce an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, Drunken Fireworks.

Drunken Fireworks is a small-town story set in Maine as are many of King’s stories and it centres on a mechanic (James Franco) who competes in the town’s annual Fourth of July fireworks competition against a local mob boss.

The script is being written by Matt Rager who has collaborated with Franco on films, As I Lay Dying, The Sound And The Fury and the upcoming John Steinbeck novel adaptation InDubious Battle, all of which Franco directed. No director has been assigned to Drunken Fireworks as of yet.

Franco has previously worked on another King adaptation of 11.22.63 about the assassination of JFK.
